My Apologies....But good news... Our windows have arrived

Windows arrived about a month ago!

My apologies for not keeping you updated!

Reason being ... along with many others we have had a rough year regarding the build, however cup half full we are moving forward and finally not only the  windows arrived, something big has come too but more about that later.

Lets get the negatives out the way...

We had our new concrete water tanks and septic installed and with all the heavy rain one of the tanks popped out of the ground so we will have dig them out and check there is no damage and then reinstate them after any repairs (if needed). And yes the plumber did put water in them! We will wait for dryer weather to fix that problem.

I got scammed by a shipping container seller, yep just like the one on fairgo but not the same scammers!

The scammer guy filled me up with a beaut story about how his son is in hospital with covid and his whole family was in isolation, so therefore I could no longer view the shipping containers. However being such a lovely scammer guy he said if I did a bank transfer he would get his truck driver to deliver the containers that week.

Needless to say.. the shipping containers did not arrive and I am $8200.00 down!! We had to buy another container as our windows were due to finally arrive and we had no walls (sips panels) to put the windows in!! The next container was legit and did arrive, so long story short we have a very costly container but it does hold our windows well!

And no the police have not caught the scammers but you never know maybe one day....

The negative about the windows arriving is the fact that shipping was estimated over a year ago at $6300 and the actual cost was just under $30,000. yes you read that right just under 30k... Huge budget blow out!

The other negative is  our lovely feature window in the kitchen came the wrong size which means we can no longer use our Miele range hood and hob we got with the kitchen we  purchased, as the window goes up too high to have a range hood.  The window company would get a new window made  for us of course but we don't  have the time to wait for it to be made and shipped. So good thing is I have found a down draft hob which will work, the window wont be a cool snapshot feature but at least we can still start to get this house built! Fabian the window guy has agreed to refund the window and we are going to work something out with him with the down draft  Bosch Hob costing also. Watch this space and I will let you know the outcome!

Sadly I have spotted some surface scratches on the front door but Fabian will take a look as maybe they will polish out, I am hoping so.

We have an extra unexpected $16,000. bill ... I will go into that on the next blog..

Now for the good stuff.... I have a beautiful new grand baby!! She is gorgeous! oh thats right the build...

Build talk not grand baby talk! So Our amazing windows arrived and I can tell you it was no mean feat trying to put them into our container in fact some had to go into the garage as too tall for the container. Lucky we hade some brains around on the day and having Gary (engineer and brother in law) and Terry (scientist and my son in laws Father). I say brains, as there is no way 4 people were going to be able to lift those big windows!

Terry and Gary put their brains together and made up a roller system to roll them into the garage, not out of anything to fancy, a pole and a weight bar.

Talk about a tight fit they only just fit!

The hyab driver did what he could to help out, that was much easier on us ... skilled as he was only the smaller pallet of windows could go into the container via the hyab, the rest we had to do with brains and brawn! Brawn is my hubby of course.. I was there too but i can not claim to be the brains or the brawn!!
Huge thanks to Terry and Gary. Gav will let you know window install date!!

I promise I will do another blog very soon as I do have more news!!
Blog soon and thanks for being interested in our journey.
